Cotswold Sheep
The Cotwsold Sheep are a rare breed
dating back to the Roman days. Once the high currency (hence, the
Cotswold Hills for which they are named) in England, this breed has
withstood some pretty drastic changes to maintain a unique quality of
fiber that has lent them the variance of nicknames ranging from 'lovely
lion' to 'poor man's mohair'. Their wool, falling in long, tight
ringlets around their tall bodies, is very lusterous and soft. It
takes dyes fabulously but also washes to a bright white that is
stunning. I love this breed not only for their excellent and unique
fleece but also for their gentle manner. They are very large animals
(adult males ranging 250-300lbs. and ewes around 180-225) but are kind
and very much in need of 'people' attention and affection.
